Stageworks Opens ARMY BOOT CAMP, 5/4; Holds Auditions for SYLVIA, 5/14; Hosts TampaWorks, 6/8-9

Stageworks' production of ARMY BOOT CAMP opens Friday, May 4th, auditions for Sylvia are set for May 14, and TampaWorks, an evening of short plays featuring local talent, runs June 8-9. See details below.

Social, racial and ethnic issues are tackled with Simon's superb comic timing as Eugene is drafted to serve in WWII and comes of age in ARMY BOOT CAMP! Rich in both humor and ethical confrontation. It won the Tony Award for best play in 1985.

Directed by Karla Hartley. Featuring Ricky Cona and Heather Krueger, performances run May 4-20, 2012, Thursdays - Saturdays 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. May 3rd is the preview - $10 tickets. The opening night gala is May 4th - $50 tickets.

Stageworks is currently casting SYLVIA by AR Gurney, directed by Karla Hartley. Performances are June 28-July15, 2012 and rehearsals begin June 4, 2012. ***The role of Sylvia has been cast. ***

Stageworks is  seeking the following:

Roles: Greg (40-50), Kate (40-50), ONE actor to play the following: *Tom, another dog owner (30-60), *Phyllis, Kate’s college friend (40-50), *Leslie, an androgynous marriage counselor (30-60)

Auditions will be held Monday, May 14 at 7pm at the Stageworks Theater. Be prepared to read from the script. This is a paid acting position. Call 813.251.8984 to secure an audition appointment.

Finally, Stageworks hosts TampaWorks, an evening of short plays celebrating the Tampa Bay Area. Set in Tampa Bay, these comedies and dramas will explore everyday life in the Bay area, as well as local history and culture, and have been created by members of Stagewrights, a play development group hosted for the last 15 years by Stageworks Theatre. The evening will celebrate the skills of local playwrights, actors, directors and crew on a professional stage.

TampaWorks runs Friday, June 8 - Saturday, June 9 at 8 pm. Tickets are $15. Stageworks Theatre in Tampa’s Channel District is located at Grand Central at Kennedy, 1120 E. Kennedy Blvd. Tampa FL.
